Digital Horizons: Exploring African New Media Art and Creativity
This panel brings together leading voices in African new media art to explore the intersection of digital technology, culture, and creativity on the continent. Through presentations and discussions, the panelists will delve into the ways African artists and curators are using new media to reimagine futures, challenge existing narratives, and engage with global technological shifts.
Moderated by Marie du Chastel, artistic director of KIKK festival and manager of the AfriKIKK project, the session will feature insights from:
• Dr. Tegan Bristow: A researcher and curator specializing in African art, culture, and technology. Dr. Bristow will share her experience mapping the digital cultural industries in Africa, including her work with the Fak’ugesi African Digital Innovation Festival.
• Linda Dounia Rebeiz: An artist, designer, and writer whose work mediates between lived experience, AI, and speculative archiving. Linda will discuss her innovative use of AI to explore memory, exclusion, and technocapitalism.
• Oulimata Gueye: A curator and researcher whose work focuses on the impact of digital technologies on urban cultures and art practices in Africa. Oulimata will highlight her curatorial projects that explore Afrofuturism, digital imaginaries, and the intersections of technology and gender in African contexts.
