Kyle McDonald & Daito Manabe
Kyle McDonald is an artist working with code. He crafts interactive and immersive audiovisual installations, performances, and new tools for creative exploration—building new communities and collaborations. He uses techniques from computer vision, machine learning, and computing to ask questions about how we connect—and to imagine a shared future.
Daito Manabe is an artist, programmer and composer. He founded Rhizomatiks in 2006 and Studio Daito Manabe in 2022. He creates works by reinterpreting and combining familiar phenomena and materials from different perspectives. Rather than aiming for rich expressions such as high resolution and high realism, they focus on the intrinsic interest of phenomena, the body, programming and computers themselves, which can be discovered through careful observation, and on the relationships and boundaries between humans and machines, analogue and digital, real and virtual, and work in a variety of fields.

What does the future of media and interactivity look like when every image and every sound is generated by an AI? Can we understand these systems better by interacting with them in realtime using our bodies? This is an early study for realtime image-to-image, made possible for the first time in 2023 by Stability AI’s Stable Diffusion XL-Turbo model, combined with their Stable Audio text-to-music.
